WSUS Support for Windows Server 2016 RTM

In a previous post regarding the latest batch of Cumulative Updates for Windows 10 I had mentioned that Microsoft were yet to enable WSUS support  for Windows Server 2016 RTM.

As it turns out WSUS will in fact pull down updates for the RTM version of the OS, along with the Technical Preview builds as it has done in the past.

I recently tested this out with a Windows Server 2016 RTM based WSUS server by selecting the “Windows 10 Server” option under the Products and Classifications section.

From there I performed a manual sync and checked what updates were brought down from Microsoft Update. In my case WSUS had pulled down updates for Technical Preview 3, 4 and 5 but also the recent Cumulative Updates for the RTM version.

Please be aware that I have not tested this with WSUS on Windows Server 2012 or 2012 R2 therefore I cannot confirm if the above method works on those versions. If you have had success with this on other versions then please let me know in the comments 🙂
